# Users and workspaces

> Accounts, workspaces, and how people join them.

Everything you do in OuterProduct happens in a workspace. Your runs, volumes, secrets, and API keys live there, and so do the people you work with. Each workspace has one owner, who manages it and invites others, and any number of members. You can belong to several workspaces and switch between them at any time.

## Joining OuterProduct

There are two ways to join:

* **Sign up.** Sign in with Google, and you automatically get a workspace that you own.
* **Accept an invitation.** If a workspace owner invites you, follow the link in the invitation email and sign in with Google. You join their workspace as a member and don't get a workspace of your own. If you sign up directly instead of through the link, you get your own workspace, and the invitation stays valid.

If you already have an account when you're invited, you keep your workspaces and gain the new one.

Anyone can create a workspace from the workspace picker's **New workspace** and becomes its owner.

## Switching workspaces

The dashboard shows one workspace at a time. Switch between yours from the workspace picker. API keys belong to the workspace they were created in and only work there.

## Inviting people

Only the owner can invite people. They do it from **Users** → **Invite** by entering an email address. The invitee joins as a member and doesn't need an OuterProduct account yet.

Invitations expire after 7 days. Inviting the same address again renews the invitation and resends it. Pending invitations are listed below the workspace's users, where the owner can copy an invitation's link or withdraw it.

## Managing a workspace

The user menu has these workspace actions:

* **Rename** (owner only).
* **Transfer ownership** (owner only): hands the workspace to a member, and the previous owner becomes a member. This is the only way a workspace gets a new owner.
* **Leave** (everyone but the owner): an owner must transfer ownership before leaving.

The owner can also remove members from **Users**.

If you leave a workspace or are removed from one, you keep your account, even if you no longer belong to any workspace. Resources you created stay in the workspace and remain attributed to you, but are frozen.
